It’s an honor to have with us today the man who Philip Seib and the Dallas Morning News called “one of the best political biographers, as well as one of America’s finest political reporters.” As Seib noted, his books about John Kennedy, Richard Nixon and now Ronald Reagan are indispensable reading for anyone interested in the modern U.S. How much did he like the job? That’s a question that President Kennedy faced during his press conference on March 29 th, 1962. President Kennedy stated that by that definition, he found that the Presidency provides some happiness. It is the full use of your powers along lines of excellence. But as President Kennedy often noted, it is also a job that meets the definition of happiness of the Greeks. And you realize that the Presidency is one tough job. You can look at any President and see how he ages over the course of his term. Reeves has honorary degrees from his alma mater, Stevens Institute of Technology, Drew University, amd St. Reeves has also earned an Emmy Award for his work on ABC news, the Book of the Year Award from Washington Monthly, the PEN Non-Fiction Book of the Year Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. For his writing, Reeves has received a number of awards including the American Political Science Association’s Carey McWilliams Award for distinguished contributions to the understanding of American politics. politics, and his books include President Nixon: Alone in the White House, President Kennedy: Profile of Power, and President Reagan: The Triumph of Imagination. He also is a former chief political correspondent for The New York Times, and is currently a lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Richard Reeves is a writer and syndicated columnist who has made a number of award-winning documentary films and written several books.
